10/01/09 Moorland Walk to Fron Deg

It was not a very good day for a walk as the weather was gray and grim most times and very cold. Today I decided to photograph on my walk anything brightly coloured that I saw or anything unusual. The walk was really on the whole for the sake of the exercise. When you miss walking your muscles soon get stiff and complain afterwards.

This first picture will give you a good idea of the conditions and temperature today.

I saw this lichen on the wall by the lead mines near New Brighton.

The moorland is great place on a sunny or atmospheric day and you do see the odd person around but on a gray grim day like today there is a good likelihood that you won’t, but to my surprise I saw two women coming from the opposite direction with two dogs. Looking closely I knew one of them and she knew me but we had not seen each other for years, we very soon introduced ourselves and we soon remembered. . I had based my dissertation when at the Art College on her husband John’ work (he was an artist) and she was saying that he is still working as an artist in York now. I have included his web address on this blog so you can go and have a look. Then Beth introduced me to her friend and she had lived near my friend some time ago, Penny whom I had walked with yesterday. So that made my walk very worthwhile.

Towards the end of my walk I came across the Wooden carved pigs and the chairs which I thought was very unusual , the chairs must be wonderful for the children that visit the Nant Mill visitors Centre.

At Nant Mill Visitors Centre you can see a wonderful stained glass window by local artist Chris Bird Jones who I used to share a workshop with in 1984 she is now the head of Architectural Glass at Swansea Metropolitan University.

That looks really beautiful. I have been to the V&A with Rachel today and it was superb.
